Obituary For John Willie Stevens, Sr.
Let me tell you about the late: John Willie Stevens, Sr.
He was born on April 17, 1946, to the late Lucenda and Willie Stevens, and passed away January 26, 2018. He was born in Waynesboro, Ga. And grew up in Plymouth, NC, where he attended Washington County Union School. After 3 years of service in the United States Army…he moved to Jacksonville, Fl, where he attended Edward Waters College. After two years of college, he met the love of his life, (ME), Vivian Twiggs, and we enjoyed a beautiful marriage for 44 years. (We almost made it to 45 years). To this union we had 3 gorgeous children: Shirili Stevens Murphy (her husband, Ernest); John Willie Stevens, Jr. (his wife, Theresa) and Joshua Wayne Stevens (his wife, Tashara). We have 7 adorable Grandchildren: Sterling, Shirece, Deonte, Jache’, Se’Bian, Jasmyne and Kierstyn. We are awaiting the arrival of our 8th in late February, who’s name will be Kobe, although his sister calls him Turbo. John had 8 siblings, 4 of which proceeded him in death: Edward Stevens, Robert Stevens, Louise Harvey and Mae Wright. His remaining siblings are: Frank Stevens (his lovely wife, Earnestine) of Plymouth, NC, Joseph Stevens, Dorothy Holmes (her charming husband, David) and Barbara Williams and (her dashing husband, Leonard). All of Jacksonville, Fl. He also has 3 other Sisters-in-law: Geneva Smith, Eunice Prince (her Prince Charming husband, Napolian) of Jacksonville, Fl. And Annie Tate (her dashing husband, Terry) of Macon, Ga. He leaves to mourn his death, many, many sorrowing nieces and nephews and many well respected friends. Among these are his niece: Patricia Twiggs Thomas, of Jacksonville, Fl. Who lovingly and willingly assisted in his care giving. As a couple, we were privileged to travel with, Casper and Phyllis Clayton and Mike and Mae Raines (we had sooo much fun together). John dedicated his life to Jehovah in 1971 and remained a faithful servant of his for over 46 years, where he had the privilege of serving as an Elder in the Springfield Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. John enjoyed traveling with his family. Some of the places we were fortunate to travel was: New Orleans, Houston, Tx., New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, Orlando, Kissimmee, Tampa, Gatlinburg, Tn., to the Great Smoky Mountains and many, many more trips to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. We also went to Toronto, Williamsburg, Va., and Atlanta. We also went on several cruises over the years…these are just a few. John took a lot of pride in his family and he spoiled me rotten. He enjoyed doing things around his home, from laying bricks to working on his own cars. He enjoyed having nice: Suits, Shoes, Neck Ties and Watches.
