May, Barbara Jean Aikens of Jacksonville, Florida passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at UF Health Jacksonville. Born in Thomas County, Georgia on February 27, 1941 she was the daughter of the late Roland and Wessie (Spencer) Aikens. She graduated from New Stanton high school, Jacksonville FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Joseph Hernandez; sisters, Armeter "Tina" Duncan and Sandra Robertson; brother, Clayton Aikens. She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Janet Hernandez of Kent, WA. and Valeria "Niecy" May-Capers of Midland, GA, son Rodney May of Jacksonville, FL, one very special grandson, who she reared as her own, Alfred Capers, Jr.; seven other grandchildren, LaTwan Taylor of Kent Washington, Brittani May Chambers, Alisha May, Tyneshia May, Rodnesha May, Dominique Capers and Raven Norried ; 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bertha Fortune of Jacksonville FL, Delorese "Dee" (Robert) Collier of Zion, II, Janice Taylor of Los Angles, CA.; four brothers, Roland (Gail) Akins of Hiram, GA, Adolphus (Shirley) Aikens, Michael Aikens and Felton (Annie) Aikens all of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Adam Robertson of Waukegan, IL, sister-in-law, Davphine Aikens of Jacksonville FL.; aunts, Lena (William) Inman of St. Simon Island, GA, Jackie Thomas of Brunswick, GA and uncle, Howard Spencer Sr. of Boston, GA.

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done, I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and summer days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun, Of happy memories that I leave When life is done.
